 Carter on the other hand was squirming visibly when he claimed ignorance.  As well he might.  The Campaign Against Factory Farming met with him 4 years ago and briefed him about intensive farming of pigs and battery hens.  Carter asked a number of questions, indicating he understood exactly what we were saying.  I sent a letter afterwards, summarising the points we raised in the meeting and enclosing some scientific literature on pig production in New Zealand.  This letter has now been tabled in Parliament and is a matter of public record.

Was Carter lying through his teeth?  I leave that to the public to judge.</description>
